The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene today, Friday, February 28, 2025, in Peshawar to observe the crescent moon, marking the onset of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH. The session, presided over by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will take place at the Auqaf Department building.

In a bid to ensure a unified start to the holy month across the nation, the government has strategically chosen Peshawar as the meeting location. Simultaneously, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will hold sessions in their respective areas. The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Zonal Committee will gather at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in the federal capital.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that the new moon’s conjunction is expected to occur today at 5:45 AM Pakistan Standard Time (PST). However, the visibility of the crescent depends on various factors, including the moon’s age, its angular distance from the sun, altitude at sunset, and prevailing atmospheric conditions.

The final announcement regarding the sighting of the Ramadan moon will be made by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad after the committee’s deliberations. This decision will determine the commencement date of Ramadan, anticipated to begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025, contingent upon the moon’s sighting.
