The in-camera session provided detailed briefings on the Pakistan-Afghanistan situation, developments concerning Iran, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and Gulf region, and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements.

Participants were also updated on the country’s internal security situation, with political leadership being taken into confidence on critical developments. Prime Minister Sharif shared insights from his recent interactions with Middle Eastern leadership and outlined diplomatic efforts undertaken during recent regional tensions.

During the meeting, party leaders openly shared their perspectives, commending Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives for regional peace and urging their intensification. They also presented suggestions for future strategies. A strong resolve to eradicate terrorism from the nation was reaffirmed by all attendees.

The political leadership expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s initiative in keeping them informed in the broader national interest.

A proposal was put forward to convene a joint parliamentary session to specifically address developments related to Afghanistan and the Middle East. It was suggested that Prime Minister Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar would jointly brief lawmakers from both government and opposition benches on the international situation and Pakistan’s role.

Notable attendees included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Attaullah Tarar.

The briefing comes amidst heightened regional tensions, including the Middle East conflict and ongoing threats of cross-border terrorism originating from Afghanistan. Pakistan’s armed forces are actively engaged in operations to counter these threats along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
