A significant six-nation conference focused on illegal migration and security cooperation recently took place in Warsaw. The meeting brought together interior ministers from various European countries, with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi leading the Pakistani delegation. The primary agenda items included strategies to prevent illegal migration, dismantle human smuggling networks, and enhance security collaboration.

The conference, hosted by Poland’s Marcin Kierwinski, saw participation from ministers representing Estonia, Latvia, Finland, and Lithuania. All participating nations lauded Pakistan for its decisive actions against illegal migration and human trafficking, acknowledging the country’s vigorous crackdown and the positive outcomes achieved.

A key outcome of the conference was the agreement to develop a joint roadmap designed to deter illegal migration while simultaneously promoting legal and safe migration channels. In a notable development, the European countries in attendance committed to opening official employment avenues for Pakistani citizens within their legal migration frameworks. The ministers also agreed to designate focal persons within their respective interior ministries to bolster coordination and the exchange of information.

Discussions extended to critical areas such as internal security, counter-terrorism, border management, and anti-narcotics strategies. Minister Mohsin Naqvi provided an update on the situation at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, noting the presence of 22 terrorist organizations operating within Afghanistan and asserting that “Pakistan today is a wall between terrorists in Afghanistan and the rest of the world.” He further highlighted that Pakistan’s intensive operations against human smuggling networks have led to a 47% reduction in illegal migration from Pakistan to Europe, emphasizing that sustained cooperation between Pakistan and European nations is essential to effectively address migration challenges.

The Pakistani delegation also included Ambassador Muhammad Sami, DG FIA Dr. Usman Anwar, DIG Ahsan Younas, Dr. Abid Khan, and Sohail Chaudhary, who actively contributed to the conference proceedings.
