Urgent Call for Emergency Healthcare Infrastructure in Sindh

The Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the establishment of a trauma hospital near Sindh’s busiest highways following a tragic accident on the M-9 Motorway that claimed more than a dozen lives. PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor expressed grief over the incident and criticized the government for failing to provide adequate emergency healthcare facilities.

Shakoor highlighted that a fully constructed trauma centre near Safoora, Scheme 33, was completed years ago with taxpayer money but never opened to the public. Instead, the facility was handed over to a private institution, leaving citizens without access to critical emergency care.

“This was a building meant to save lives. Public funds, public land, and public trust went into it. And yet, it never served the people,” Shakoor stated, calling the abandonment of the project a grave injustice.

The PDP leader demanded a full public inquiry into the project, urging the government to release all relevant records, including approval documents, budget details, inspection reports, and transfer agreements. He stressed that transparency is essential to restore public trust and ensure accountability.

Shakoor emphasized that every day without a trauma hospital near the motorway puts lives at risk. He urged the Sindh government to take immediate action to operationalize the facility and strengthen emergency healthcare infrastructure across the province.

The demand reflects growing public frustration over healthcare negligence and highlights the urgent need for functional trauma centres to respond to accidents on Sindh’s busiest highways.
