Strengthening Vaccine Security Through Renewable Energy

Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, has inaugurated a 1-megawatt solar power system at the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) warehouse of the Federal Directorate of Immunization in Islamabad. The project, developed in collaboration with UNICEF, marks a significant step toward building a sustainable and resilient healthcare system in Pakistan.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing healthcare infrastructure. By harnessing renewable energy, the system ensures uninterrupted storage of life-saving vaccines, even during emergencies or power outages. This advancement strengthens Pakistan’s vaccine cold chain, a critical component in safeguarding public health.
