Islamabad Tightens Toll Plaza Rules With M-Tag Enforcement
From January 1, vehicles without an M-Tag will no longer be allowed to enter Islamabad through toll plazas. The decision, announced by the National Highways & Motorway Police, is part of a broader effort to streamline traffic flow and enhance security across the capital.
The M-Tag system, already in place on major motorways, allows for automated toll collection. By eliminating manual payments, authorities aim to reduce congestion, minimize delays, and improve efficiency for thousands of daily commuters.
Officials explained that the ban is designed to ensure smoother travel and better monitoring of vehicles entering Islamabad. With M-Tag, toll plazas can process cars quickly, cutting down on long queues and reducing the risk of traffic jams during peak hours.
The enforcement also strengthens security measures. Automated records of vehicles passing through toll plazas provide authorities with real-time data, helping track movement and prevent misuse of road networks.
Motorists are being urged to register for M-Tag before the deadline to avoid inconvenience. Registration centers have been set up at multiple locations, making the process simple and accessible.
This initiative reflects Islamabad’s push toward modernizing its transport infrastructure. By adopting digital solutions like M-Tag, the city is moving closer to a smart traffic management system that prioritizes convenience, safety, and efficiency.
