Karachi Situation Under Control, Assures Sindh Home Minister
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has called upon the public to disregard any rumors regarding disturbances in Karachi. He asserted that the city’s situation is completely stable and under control.
In a statement released this Monday, Lanjar stated that strict measures will be implemented against individuals who disseminate inflammatory material or misleading details with the intention of instigating widespread fear.
Following claims of protest demonstrations reportedly organized by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), social media platforms were filled with accounts of a “worsening situation” in the city. These reports surfaced just hours after normalcy had been restored in Punjab after days of turbulence.
He stressed that any attempt to defy governmental authority would be addressed according to Section 144 regulations.
The home minister also instructed law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and readiness throughout Karachi, guaranteeing presence at all vital locations. He directed the chief of Karachi police to maintain riot control units on standby and to further enhance operational security in sensitive zones and potential trouble spots.
Moreover, Lanjar instructed traffic authorities to ensure the unhindered movement of traffic across Karachi and to work in close cooperation with the police department to uphold law and order.
The minister’s statement follows online speculation about potential TLP demonstrations in Karachi, which had generated public anxiety. Lanjar affirmed that tranquility and order are being upheld throughout the city, with a robust security force presence.
Karachi police have also issued a statement clarifying that no demonstrations or sit-ins are currently taking place within the city. They mentioned that some businesses in certain areas had closed voluntarily due to unsubstantiated reports, but the general atmosphere remains calm.
