Former Pakistan Cricketer Wazir Mohammad Passes Away

BIRMINGHAM: Wazir Mohammad, a former Test cricketer for Pakistan, passed away in Birmingham on Monday at the age of 95.

Wazir played in 20 Test matches for Pakistan between 1952 and 1959. He was the older brother of the famous Hanif Mohammad and the well-known Test players Mushtaq Mohammad and Sadiq Mohammad.

During his Test career, which lasted seven years, Wazir scored 801 runs in 33 innings, averaging 27.62. His batting included two centuries and three half-centuries. Notably, he was a member of the Pakistani squad that toured India in 1952 for their inaugural Test series.

In a statement, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his deep sadness at the passing of the legendary batter and sent his condolences to the family.

Naqvi stated in the PCB statement, “Wazir Muhammad was an accomplished batsman and a highly refined individual. May Allah Almighty grant him eternal peace and provide strength to his family during this difficult time.”
