Jaiswal and Gill Set to Resume India’s Innings on Day Two

DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s magnificent unbeaten century has given India a commanding position on the first day of the second Test match against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.

India’s decision to bat first, made by captain Shubman Gill, proved fruitful as the team concluded the day at 318/2, with both Jaiswal and Gill remaining undefeated at the end of play.

The innings began with a mixed start for the hosts as KL Rahul, who scored a century in the previous match, was caught out by Jomel Warrican during the 18th over. The right-handed batter scored 38 runs from 54 balls, which included five boundaries and one six.

Following that initial setback, Sai Sudharsan partnered with Jaiswal. Together, they took control against the West Indies bowlers, solidifying India’s strong position.

Jaiswal and Sudharsan boosted India past the 250-run mark, establishing a partnership of 193 runs for the second wicket before Warrican struck again, dismissing Sudharsan in the final session.

Sudharsan made a significant contribution for the home team, scoring a steady 87 runs off 165 balls, with 12 fours.

After Sudharsan’s dismissal, Gill and Jaiswal worked to maintain India’s advantage, creating an unbeaten 67-run partnership for the third wicket. The two players will return on the second day to continue India’s first innings, aiming for a substantial total.

Jaiswal was the leading scorer for India, remaining unbeaten with 173 runs from 253 balls, including 22 fours, while Gill scored 20 not out from 68 balls, with three boundaries.

Warrican was the only bowler to secure wickets, taking both of India’s wickets that fell on the first day, as all other bowlers remained without a wicket.
