Isak Completes Transfer to Liverpool; No Contact with Former Newcastle Coach
Alexander Isak has revealed that he hasn’t communicated with his previous coach, Eddie Howe, since his high-profile transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool.
Isak’s move to Liverpool was finalized on deadline day with a long-term agreement, concluding a protracted period of speculation during the summer transfer window.
Newcastle reportedly accepted a Premier League record bid of £125 million ($170 million) for the Swedish international on September 1, after having turned down an initial offer of £110 million including various add-ons.
Isak expressed that moving forward is the best course of action, as dwelling on the past is unproductive.
“I prefer to put everything behind me now,” Isak stated in advance of Sweden’s World Cup qualifying match against Switzerland. “It doesn’t help anyone, neither Newcastle nor myself, so it’s best to move on.”
When asked about whether he had spoken with Howe following his departure from Newcastle, he simply stated, “No.”
To date, Alexander Isak has recorded one goal and one assist in six appearances for Liverpool. His playing time has been carefully managed by Arne Slot as Isak regains peak fitness after missing time during the summer.
Liverpool are currently experiencing a downturn, having suffered losses in their last three matches, a situation not seen since 2023. They currently hold the second position in the Premier League standings.
Isak further noted his dedication to performing at his highest level. He acknowledged the team’s current difficulties but voiced optimism for improvement. He also indicated satisfaction with his start at his new club.
“I am focused on working hard and performing to the best of my abilities,” Isak commented.
“The team is going through a challenging phase. I am confident that as the team dynamic improves, my performance will also improve in conjunction.”
“I’ve felt very welcome thus far. It’s a city where the team shares a strong connection with its supporters, which I value highly. My experience has been positive up to this point.”
