Karachi Experiences Rainfall in Several Areas

On Tuesday, various areas of Karachi experienced rainfall. Significant downpours were observed in Liaquatabad, Federal B Area, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, and the Old City area.

These showers occurred in light of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) prediction of light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, for the city.

The weather forecast indicates that the city will experience cloudy conditions over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of scattered light to moderate rain.

The expected high temperature will range from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are currently at 65%, with light southeasterly winds.

The PMD has also issued a warning regarding a well-defined low-pressure system situated over Gujarat, India. There is a possibility that it could strengthen into a tropical cyclone as it moves into the northeast Arabian Sea around October 1. This raises concerns about strong winds, substantial rainfall, and potential damage in areas of Sindh.

The PMD’s Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi anticipates that the low-pressure system will track west-northwestward and may intensify into a depression upon entering the Arabian Sea near India’s Saurashtra region.

While officials have stated that there is no immediate threat to Pakistan’s coastline, they have emphasized that the system is being carefully monitored for any further developments.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Islamabad has reported that moist air currents from the Arabian Sea are already affecting southeastern Sindh. This is expected to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Jamshoro from the night of September 29 until October 2.

Isolated instances of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Mirpurkhas during this time.

Earlier in September, Karachi experienced significant rainfall from September 8 to 10. This resulted in widespread flooding, overflowing rivers, and stranded residents.

On September 16, the city also received light rain and occasional drizzle.
