Mariners Tie Astros for AL West Lead

SEATTLE: In a thrilling match at T-Mobile Park on Thursday night, pinch hitter Harry Ford delivered the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly. With the bases loaded and no outs in the 12th inning, the Seattle Mariners triumphed over the Los Angeles Angels with a final score of 7-6.

Mike Trout blasted his 399th career home run in the fifth inning, leveling the score at 4-4 after the Angels had initially fallen behind 4-0 in the second. Logan Davidson also contributed with his first Major League Baseball (MLB) homer for the Angels (69-78).

The Mariners (79-68) have now drawn even with the Houston Astros for the top spot in the American League West, marking their sixth consecutive victory.

Los Angeles took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 12th when Matthew Lugo scored on a single.

In the bottom half of the inning, Jorge Polanco initiated the comeback with a double down the left field line against reliever Sammy Peralta (0-1), allowing Josh Naylor, who started the inning as the runner at second, to score. Peralta then intentionally walked Eugenio Suarez, and pinch-hitter Victor Robles followed with a bunt single, loading the bases.

Ford, a rookie in his fourth game, lofted the subsequent pitch to right field, enabling Polanco to score and securing his first career RBI.

Jose Castillo of the Mariners earned the win.

Bryce Miller pitched five and two-thirds innings for the Mariners, allowing four runs on six hits and achieving a career-high 11 strikeouts.

Angels’ starter Jose Soriano pitched four innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits, walking three, and striking out four.
