Australia Announces Squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup

Australia, a seven-time champion in the Cricket World Cup, is considered a top contender for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. The tournament will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Alyssa Healy is set to lead a strong 15-member team into the competition. The reigning champions, who secured their seventh title in New Zealand back in 2022, possess considerable talent and a great deal of experience.

Ten players from the selected squad were part of the team in the previous edition, with Healy taking on the captaincy for her third Cricket World Cup. She will receive support from experienced players such as Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Ash Gardner, and Tahlia McGrath.

Left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux has also been included, marking her return after recovering from a knee injury. Alana King and Georgia Wareham will further bolster Australia’s spin bowling options. Young batter Georgia Voll has secured a spot on the squad for her first World Cup. In addition, Nicole Faltum and Charli Knott are slated to participate in the three-match ODI series against India leading up to the main event.

Australia selector Shawn Flegler conveyed his confidence in the squad’s equilibrium and capacity to excel in difficult environments. He stated, “A World Cup held in India presents one of cricket’s greatest challenges, but we are confident that this group is prepared for it.”

Flegler added, “The team’s valuable experience gained from several tours of the subcontinent in recent years, along with exposure through the Women’s Premier League, will be advantageous when addressing the distinct requirements of Indian conditions.”

“Throughout the winter, we have seen outstanding performances from the entire team. Whether in the Australia A series, The Hundred, or domestic cricket in England, players have personalized their preparation, which seems to have positioned them well.”

“Nicole Faltum and Charli Knott are still making a strong impression and will join the squad for the three ODIs as part of their ongoing development before they go back home for the start of the (Australian domestic competition) WNCL.”

“The prolonged nature of an ODI World Cup can present challenges, and we think this group has sufficient depth and versatility to handle those demands.”

Australia is scheduled to commence their World Cup journey against their trans-Tasman rivals, New Zealand, in Indore on October 1. For viewers in Australia, the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be broadcast live, exclusively, and without charge on Prime Video via a free Amazon account.
