Antony Finalizes Deal with Betis Until 2030
Brazilian forward Antony has affirmed that he turned down a substantial offer from Bayern Munich to rejoin Real Betis, according to international reports released on Wednesday.
Antony stated that when his permanent transfer from Manchester United to Betis faced a brief delay the previous Friday, Bayern presented him with a lucrative proposal in a last-ditch effort to secure his signature, reportedly offering to double his current earnings.
Following an agreement reached between the clubs on the transfer deadline day, Antony officially signed a contract with Betis that extends until June 2030.
Antony mentioned that he had a conversation with representatives from Bayern one day before the deal was completed. However, he informed them of his commitment to Betis, as the agreement was already 95% finalized.
“One day prior to finalizing the agreement, I engaged in discussions with individuals from Bayern,” Antony stated.
“During my conversation with Bayern, I conveyed that the Betis deal was virtually complete, around 95%, and I intended to honor my commitment. This decision stems from respect, affection, and the knowledge that I am content here.
“I am uncertain whether they were proposing €7 million [in wages]. With utmost respect for Bayern, a globally recognized club, I am at peace with my decision. While the future remains uncertain, I am confident in the choice I have made.”
Antony, aged 25, spent the latter part of the season on loan at Real Betis, where he revitalized the reputation he had previously held at United.
He participated in 26 matches for Betis, scoring nine goals throughout the campaign. During this period, the club advanced to the final of the UEFA Conference League, and he also received a call-up to the Brazilian national team once more.
Reports indicate that Betis will pay a base fee of €22 million for the Brazilian player, with an additional €3 million contingent on potential bonuses.
