Gundogan’s Return to Manchester in 2024-25 Season

Ilkay Gundogan has officially joined Turkish champions Galatasaray on a two-year arrangement after departing Manchester City, the Turkish club stated Wednesday.

Media outlets indicate that his compensation for the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 campaigns will amount to 4.5 million euros ($5.27 million).

Galatasaray disclosed Tuesday that they and City had achieved an understanding for Gundogan’s transfer without a fee until the conclusion of the 2026–2027 season.

Gundogan acknowledged City’s potential for continued achievement and assured he would closely monitor their progress.

He affirmed that the club would forever hold a special place in his memories.

“I am confident Manchester City will attain even greater success going forward, and I will undoubtedly be observing from afar as my career progresses in Turkey, a nation of great significance to me,” Gundogan remarked.

“Manchester City will consistently occupy a cherished position in my thoughts. Securing the Premier League and FA Cup titles held immense value for me, but being granted the privilege of hoisting the Champions League trophy for this Club for the first time, particularly in Istanbul, will remain an everlasting memory.”

The midfielder participated in 358 matches across two periods with City, achieving a remarkable record of 65 goals and securing 14 trophies, encompassing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble in 2023.

Gundogan initially joined City’s roster from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, subsequently transferring to Barcelona in 2023.

He made his way back to Manchester for the 2024–25 season, where he recorded five goals and contributed eight assists throughout 54 appearances across various competitions.
