Asif Ali Retires from International Cricket

KARACHI: Middle-order batsman Asif Ali declared his departure from international cricket on Monday.

Asif shared the announcement on his Instagram profile, describing his time representing Pakistan as the most esteemed phase of his life.

“Today marks my retirement from international cricket,” Asif posted.

“By the grace of Allah, donning the Pakistan jersey has been the paramount honor of my life, and serving my nation on the cricket field has been my proudest accomplishment,” he stated.

The powerful hitter conveyed his appreciation to his colleagues, trainers, supporters, friends, and relatives for their backing throughout his professional journey, notably during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, when he suffered the loss of his daughter.

“To my supporters, teammates, and coaching staff, I appreciate your affection, confidence, and support through every triumph and setback. To my family and friends, who remained by my side during joyous times and the most challenging ordeals, including the passing of my cherished daughter during the World Cup, your fortitude propelled me onward.”

Notably, Asif Ali participated in 58 T20Is and 21 ODIs for Pakistan, amassing 959 runs in both formats, highlighted by three half-centuries.

He was a member of the Pakistani teams that advanced to the final and semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022 and 2021, respectively.

Asif Ali was instrumental in Pakistan’s progression to the semi-final in 2021, delivering match-winning performances in group-stage matches against New Zealand and Afghanistan.

Asif’s final international match for Pakistan occurred in 2023 against Bangladesh during the Asian Games.
