Police Officer Martyred in Kohat Terrorist Attack
In a recent incident, a police officer lost his life, and two others sustained injuries during a terrorist assault in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district on Saturday.
Kohat Regional Police Officer (RPO) Abbas Majeed Marwat stated that the police personnel in the Lachi region of Kohat were targeted in a brazen attack by militants. The assault resulted in the loss of Inspector Ashfaq, while two additional officers were wounded.
He further mentioned that during the exchange of fire, three assailants were also killed.
The province’s police force and law enforcement agencies have been grappling with an increase in terrorist activities for an extended period. Earlier this month, one police officer was killed, and three militants were killed in an attack on a checkpoint in KP’s Bannu district.
As per police reports, the terrorists used heavy weaponry to attack the Fateh Khel checkpoint, leading to a gunfight between law enforcement and the attackers.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen a rise in terror incidents originating from across the border, particularly in the bordering provinces of KP and Balochistan.
According to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank based in Islamabad, the nation experienced 78 terrorist attacks in June, which caused approximately 100 fatalities.
The casualties included 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees.
In addition, 189 individuals were wounded, including 126 members of the security forces and 63 civilians.
Overall, the violence and related operations resulted in 175 deaths in June, comprising 55 security personnel, 77 militants, 41 civilians, and two peace committee members.
