Chelsea Set to Acquire Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United
Chelsea has reportedly reached an accord with Manchester United to secure the services of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho for a sum around £40 million.
International media sources verified the agreement on Thursday, noting it incorporates a 10% sell-on clause for United concerning any subsequent transfer.
The 21-year-old is slated to undergo medical assessments on Friday before completing a contract with Chelsea in London, expected to extend until 2032.
Reports suggest Chelsea’s initial bid for Garnacho was £25 million, short of United’s £50 million valuation. However, discussions resulted in a mutually acceptable higher amount.
Since joining from Atletico Madrid’s youth setup in October 2020, Garnacho has played in 144 senior matches for United, netting 26 goals, notably against Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup final.
In 2022, he earned Manchester United’s Young Player of the Year accolade and contributed to the FA Youth Cup-winning squad.
The winger was absent from Manchester United’s preseason tour in the United States, excluded from the first-team strategies outlined by Ruben Amorim for this summer.
Following his placement on the bench during the Europa League final against Tottenham in May, Garnacho reportedly voiced his dissatisfaction with the coach from Portugal.
In recent times, he has been training separately from the primary team, alongside teammates Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, together known as the club’s ‘bomb squad.’
Garnacho, also an Argentina national team player, is anticipated to bolster Chelsea’s attacking resources after his move from Old Trafford.
