Aamir Jamal Voices Frustration Over Lack of Communication from PCB
Pakistani Test all-rounder Aamir Jamal has conveyed his disappointment regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) and the selection committee’s insufficient communication concerning his prospective role within the team.
During a recent discussion with a local sports outlet, Jamal openly expressed his worries about being uninformed regarding the team’s strategies.
“Up to this point, I haven’t engaged in any dialogue with anyone regarding my part in upcoming plans. I also require clarity—if I am not being considered in any format, it should be stated honestly,” Jamal remarked.
The 29-year-old addressed any reservations pertaining to his fitness and availability, asserting that he has completely recuperated from his injury and is prepared to contribute to the team.
“If you don’t wish for me to be a part of the team, regardless of the reasons, that is acceptable. My absence has solely been due to injury, but I have completely recovered and demonstrated my fitness—I am entirely fit. I have been bowling with complete rhythm and maintaining my workload impeccably,” he affirmed.
He emphasized his eagerness to contribute wherever required, communicating his readiness to represent the national team in any format.
“If there is a strategy, simply inform me promptly. If I am only needed for a particular format, I don’t mind because representing Pakistan is always an honor, irrespective of the format,” he stated.
Highlighting the absence of communication from the selectors, the right-arm pacer recounted a recent occurrence during the West Indies Test series that also contributed to his exclusion from the BPL.
“Drawing an example from the West Indies Test series, we had just come back from the South Africa series, and I was given the opportunity to participate in the entire BPL season. I declined because I informed them that I was in the West Indies series,” he said.
“Subsequently, even after the squad was announced, someone forwarded me a press release stating that I had been omitted due to workload management. I was unaware of that,” he clarified.
Jamal conveyed that enhanced communication would have been valued.
“I’m not assigning blame to anyone, but I wish they had communicated with clarity. If they wanted me to rest or not be considered for certain matches to test a different combination, they could have directly consulted me. That would have been acceptable,” he said.
Reflecting on the wider issue, Jamal underscored the significance of transparent communication in professional sports.
“As a player, when you are actively participating, these matters trouble you if there is a lack of communication. However, in management, the foremost action should be to address these concerns to prevent players from being uninformed. I still do not comprehend the rationale behind this communication gap, and I hope these issues are resolved as soon as possible,” he concluded.
It is important to note that the prominent player has made a noteworthy contribution to the Pakistan team in the red-ball format. In only eight Test matches, he has accumulated 352 runs, including two half-centuries.
With the ball, he has secured 21 wickets, encompassing two five-wicket hauls, at an economy rate of 4.63.
