The Punjab government has officially initiated a series of groundbreaking reforms under the Sehatmand Punjab vision, aiming to transform the healthcare system across the province. This ambitious plan highlights new hospitals, modern healthcare facilities, and services designed to improve medical access for people in both urban and rural areas.

New Hospitals and Medical Cities

As part of this healthcare roadmap, Punjab will see the development of major hospitals and specialized medical centers. A state-of-the-art Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital is planned for Lahore, while the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Hospital is being established in Sargodha. Additionally, the government has announced its commitment to building three medical cities in South, Central, and North Punjab to expand advanced healthcare coverage.

Air Ambulance and Emergency Services

The province is also introducing air ambulance services to ensure emergency patients can be shifted quickly and safely. In a progressive move, the Chief Minister also directed that her official helicopter could be used for urgent patient transfers until the air ambulance fleet becomes operational. Furthermore, Rescue 1122 service will soon be launched on the motorway, strengthening emergency response and accident relief efforts.

Rural Healthcare and Five-Year Strategy

The reforms go beyond big cities, focusing on rural and underserved regions. A comprehensive five-year strategy has been approved to upgrade rural health centres (RHCs) and dispensaries. This includes:

  • Deployment of qualified doctors and paramedical staff
  • Continuous availability of essential medicines
  • Provision of modern medical equipment in provincial hospitals
  • Strict oversight and monitoring for consistent service delivery

Vision for Sehatmand Punjab

The Sehatmand Punjab vision reflects a forward-looking approach to make healthcare services accessible, efficient, and patient-friendly. The reforms are not just about infrastructure but also about ensuring timely treatment, well-equipped facilities, and effective emergency response.
