Tanveer Ahmed Criticizes Mohammad Haris’s Remarks on Babar Azam’s T20 Approach
Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanveer Ahmed recently condemned young wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris for his statements regarding Babar Azam’s T20 game strategy.
In a local YouTube channel interview, Haris suggested that Babar should increase his scoring rate in T20 cricket. He also implied that seasoned players should make way for younger talent.
“Undoubtedly, Babar and Rizwan have produced significant performances for Pakistan; however, when aiming for higher standards, it’s essential to provide opportunities to emerging players,” Haris stated. He further emphasized, “Babar Azam needs to accelerate his gameplay in T20s.”
Tanveer responded with disagreement, criticising Haris in a post on X.
“Mohammad Haris, what makes you think you’re qualified to suggest Babar Azam needs to improve his strike rate? First, prove your worth, then comment on a world-class player,” Tanveer posted.
From 2019 to 2023, Babar and Rizwan were crucial to Pakistan’s T20I batting lineup, building a strong partnership with 3,300 runs at an average of 46.47.
However, as T20 cricket globally prioritized strike-rate over consistency, their relatively cautious approach has faced increased criticism.
This debate intensified following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated early, including a loss to the USA.
Since then, the PCB seems to be moving in a different direction. Their most recent T20I match was on December 13, 2024, and neither player has been included in the format in 2025.
