Raducanu Set to Compete Against Ena Shibahara Today

British tennis star Emma Raducanu expressed her renewed connection with the US Open, stating it’s the first time she feels capable of embracing the memories created there, according to reports on Sunday.

Raducanu, now 22, achieved global recognition in 2021 by winning the US Open as a qualifier during her teenage years.

Since that victory, she has faced challenges with injuries, preventing her from securing another win at Flushing Meadows.

On Sunday, Raducanu shared that her return in 2022 was difficult, but she now believes she is in a favorable position to compete for the title.

“The return in 2022 was a real challenge. I didn’t enjoy being back,” Raducanu admitted.

“However, I now feel like I can revisit the US Open and appreciate the memories made here. I can take pride in that and view this as a positive experience.

“For that, I am thankful and delighted, putting me in a much better mindset now.”

After being sidelined from the 2023 competition due to an injury, Emma Raducanu participated last year but experienced another first-round defeat against Sofia Kenin.

Emma conveys assurance and contentment, mentioning her relaxed state and a sense of similarity to her mindset in 2021.

“I am relaxed, happy, and in a way, feeling similar off the court, simply enjoying my tennis, practice, competition, and the journey of improvement,” Raducanu added.

“In that regard, my feelings are like those of 2021.”

Raducanu is scheduled to play against Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara at 16:00 BST today.
