CM Sindh Orders Restoration of Collapsed Banyan Tree
Sindh’s Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has instructed officials to restore a 150-year-old banyan tree located at Qasr-e-Naz in Karachi. The tree was uprooted due to severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and powerful winds.
According to a statement released from the CM’s office on Saturday, the secretary of forests has been directed to commence restoration work immediately. The revival efforts will be supervised by Chief Conservator Javed Mahar and his team.
CM Shah emphasized the significance of old trees, noting that they represent cultural heritage, serve as symbols of our ancestors, and play a crucial role in environmental protection.
“During this era of climate change, every tree is exceptionally important,” he stated, also mentioning that the banyan tree is recognized as the ‘Tree of Life.’
He recalled a prior successful restoration by the forest department in 2021, where another historic tree within the Sindh High Court (SHC) premises was restored after being uprooted during significant rainfall.
CM Shah has reaffirmed the provincial government’s dedication to conserving and revitalizing ancient trees as part of a broader strategy to protect the environment and foster sustainability.
