Frimpong Injured During Premier League Debut
Jeremie Frimpong of Liverpool is expected to be out of action until after the international break in September due to a hamstring injury, according to reports in the British media on Thursday.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury during his Premier League debut against Bournemouth last week, a match Liverpool won 4-2.
The right-back is now slated to miss the upcoming games against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday and against Arsenal at Anfield on August 31.
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, provided an update on Frimpong’s injury, confirming that he will be unavailable until the conclusion of the international break.
Manager’s Statement
“The medical staff were absolutely correct in advising me to substitute Jeremie [Frimpong] because he will be sidelined until the end of the international break, and this occurred during the game,” Slot stated.
“I believe I was criticized for taking him off, wasn’t I? It had nothing to do with his performance, but we sensed he had a problem with his hamstring, and by ‘we,’ I mean the medical team. It was a wise decision to remove him. We anticipate his return after the international break.”
The season’s first international break commences on September 1 and concludes on September 9. Liverpool is scheduled to resume play on September 14 against Burnley.
The Premier League team secured Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in May for £29.5 million, as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who transferred to Real Madrid.
The right-back, also capable of playing as a winger, was a key player for Leverkusen during their German domestic double victory in 2023-24, contributing 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.
