Sri Lanka Announces ODI Squad for Zimbabwe Series
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has revealed its 16-member team for the forthcoming two-game One Day International series versus Zimbabwe, scheduled to commence later in August.
A significant absence from the squad is premier all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who sustained a hamstring injury during the Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh in July.
This injury previously kept him out of the subsequent three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, and he has not sufficiently recovered for the Zimbabwe tour.
In a positive development, top-order batsman Nuwanidu Fernando, aged 25, has been selected again. His previous ODI appearance for Sri Lanka was in 2024 against New Zealand.
The squad, captained by Charith Asalanka, will begin their campaign with the initial ODI on August 29 in Harare, which will be followed by a second ODI and then a three-game T20I series.
The team is returning to ODI cricket after securing a 2-1 series victory over Bangladesh at home last month.
Following the tour of Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka will turn its attention to the 2025 Asia Cup, where they have been placed in Group B.
They will begin their campaign against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on September 13, prior to facing Hong Kong in Dubai on September 15 and Afghanistan on September 18.
