Pakistan Affirms Desire for Amicable Relations with Afghanistan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has stated Pakistan’s dedication to fostering positive relations with Afghanistan, emphasizing that stability in the bordering nation is crucial for Pakistan’s own peace and security.

He made these remarks at a gathering in Islamabad commemorating the fourth anniversary of the Afghan Taliban’s return to power. The event also served as the first public appearance of Sardar Shakeeb, Afghanistan’s newly appointed Ambassador to Pakistan, following the elevation of his diplomatic status from chargé d’affaires by Islamabad.

The event was attended by diplomats from several countries, including China, Russia, and Malaysia, as well as representatives from the United Nations. Prominent Pakistani politicians and journalists were also present, such as opposition figures Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Asad Qaiser, Barrister Saif, the provincial government spokesperson, and Mohammad Ali Durrani, a former federal minister.

Kabul Pledges Non-Interference

In his speech, Ambassador Shakeeb reaffirmed Kabul’s commitment to a policy of non-intervention, guaranteeing that Afghan territory will not be used to undermine any neighboring country. He voiced his opposition to terrorism and advocated for the dignified and voluntary return of Afghan refugees.

Shakeeb mentioned that approximately four million Afghans have returned from Pakistan and Iran in the last four years, with the Islamic Emirate offering aid where possible. He urged host countries to ensure that all repatriations are conducted with respect and based on individual free will.

The event concluded with a formal dinner, encouraging informal diplomatic discussions and indicating a new phase in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations under the Taliban-led administration.
