KAPCO Appoints New Chairman

Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO) has announced the appointment of Lt. General Muhammad Saeed (retd) as its new chairman and director.

The Independent Power Producer (IPP), which is listed, communicated this update to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) through a formal notification on Friday.

The notification stated, “We are writing to inform you that Lt. General Muhammad Saeed (retd) has been appointed as the chairman and director, effective August 15, 2025, succeeding Lt. General Sajjad Ghani (retd).”

Last month, KAPCO secured shareholder approval for the sale of its Gas Turbines GT-3 and GT-4, including related components, to Rizwan Steel (Private) Limited for a sum of Rs800 million.

The company disclosed that Shahab Qader Khan, Chief Executive, and/or Adolf Anthony Rath, Company Secretary, are authorized to handle the disposal of the plant and machinery and represent the company in this transaction.

KAPCO was established in Pakistan on April 25, 1996, as a public limited entity. Its primary business involves owning, managing, and maintaining a multi-fuel-fired power station consisting of fifteen generating units, boasting a total capacity of 1,600 MW in Kot Addu, Punjab.

Following an international competitive bidding process overseen by the Privatisation Commission of the Government of Pakistan, the company was privatized on June 27, 1996.

In February 2005, the Privatisation Commission (acting on behalf of WAPDA) divested an additional 18% of WAPDA’s shareholding in KAPCO to the general public, leading to the company’s listing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
