Alcaraz Advances to Cincinnati Open Quarter-Finals

CINCINNATI: Carlos Alcaraz, the second-seeded player from Spain, showcased dominance at the Cincinnati Open, securing his spot in the Masters 1000 quarter-finals for the 18th time. He defeated Luca Nardi of Italy in straight sets, with a score of 6-1, 6-4, on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Alcaraz continues his impressive season, boasting a record of 36 wins out of his last 38 matches. His successful run this year includes title victories in both Monte Carlo and Rome.

Alcaraz asserted control early in the match, swiftly establishing a significant lead in the first set and closing it out comfortably. While Nardi improved his performance in the second set, displaying skillful shots to keep the match competitive, Alcaraz maintained composure, narrowly winning the set and securing the overall victory.

Following his win, Alcaraz noted that this match was his strongest showing in the tournament thus far.

“I consider this match to be my best performance in the tournament to date,” Alcaraz stated.

“Since the beginning, my goal has been continuous improvement with each practice and match. I am proud of my progress and pleased with my ball handling and movement today,” he added.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz is set to compete against Andrey Rublev, the ninth-seeded Russian player, on Thursday. Rublev previously triumphed over Francisco Comesana of Argentina with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

Alcaraz aims to become the first Spanish player to claim the Cincinnati title since Rafael Nadal’s victory back in 2013.
