Reds Dominate Phillies as Greene Shines in Return

CINCINNATI: Hunter Greene delivered a stellar performance, pitching six shutout innings and propelling the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-0 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday at Great American Ball Park.

Greene, who was making his first start since June 3 due to a right groin injury, demonstrated exceptional command. The right-hander racked up six strikeouts, issued no walks, and conceded only three hits across 85 pitches.

He efficiently retired the initial seven batters and navigated a minor threat in the third inning by striking out Kyle Schwarber with two runners on base.

The Reds provided Greene with ample offensive support, with all their runs materializing with two outs. Noelvi Marte initiated the scoring in the fourth inning with a run-scoring double.

During the sixth inning, Austin Hays drove in Elly De La Cruz with a double, and Marte followed with an RBI single. Two subsequent throwing errors enabled Marte to complete the circuit, resulting in a “Little League home run.”

Cincinnati cemented their lead in the seventh when Miguel Andújar launched a grand slam—his third home run in the past four games—off Phillies relief pitcher Jordan Romano. This marked Andújar’s third career grand slam.

Phillies’ Cristopher Sánchez (11-4) suffered just his second defeat in his last 11 starts since early June. He yielded four runs (three earned) over six innings of work.

With this triumph, the Reds clinched the series victory in the three-game set and have now emerged victorious in four of their last five contests. They will enjoy a day off on Thursday before commencing a weekend series at home against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Phillies are set to continue their road trip on Thursday, as they commence a four-game series versus the Washington Nationals. Jesús Luzardo is slated to pitch for Philadelphia, while Brad Lord is scheduled to start for Washington.
