Prime Minister Announces Free Laptop Distribution for Students
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared a scheme to distribute 100,000 laptops free of charge to deserving students throughout Pakistan, based on academic performance.
The prime minister made this announcement while speaking at the International Youth Day event held in Islamabad this Tuesday.
The laptops will be given to students from all provinces, the federal territory, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Merit-Based Distribution
During the address, the prime minister emphasized that the allocation will be strictly based on merit, ensuring fairness and transparency, and avoiding any biases or favoritism.
Eligibility Criteria
As per official directives, students engaged in higher studies at recognized public sector institutions can apply.
Applicants must be actively enrolled in PhD, MS/MPhil, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree programs and fulfill specific scholastic benchmarks.
Candidates should possess a CGPA of 2.80 or a minimum of 60% marks. First-year university entrants are required to provide their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) scores. MS and PhD scholars in their initial semester need to submit their preceding degree’s results.
Quota Details
A quota system is in place for the distribution, earmarking 18% of the laptops for students attending higher education institutions in Balochistan. Additionally, 5% is reserved for students enrolled in distance learning programs.
Application Process
To participate in this initiative, eligible students can register via the Prime Minister’s Digital Youth Hub (DYH) mobile application or by accessing the PM Youth Programme website: www.pmyp.gov.pk.
