Donnarumma Expresses Disappointment Following PSG Exclusion

Gianluigi Donnarumma has voiced his disappointment regarding his impending exit from Paris St Germain. This follows his exclusion from the Super Cup lineup by manager Luis Enrique, effectively removing him from the squad.

Donnarumma was vital in PSG’s successful campaign last season, which saw them secure a treble and their first Champions League title.

However, the 26-year-old, who joined the club in 2021, now finds himself sidelined.

PSG’s recent acquisition of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has intensified speculation surrounding Donnarumma’s future. With only a year remaining on his contract, the Italian is expected to depart.

“Regrettably, a decision has been made that I can no longer contribute to the team’s objectives,” Donnarumma shared on social media on Tuesday.

“I am disheartened and let down by this situation.”

The primary focus of the manager’s press conference was the keeper’s omission from the PSG squad for the match against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

“These choices are never easy. I have only positive things to say about Gianluigi Donnarumma,” Luis Enrique stated to reporters.

“He is undoubtedly among the best players in his position and an even better person. However, we were seeking a different profile for our goalkeeper.

“Considering Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contributions to the club, we understand his perspective. However, my goal is to enhance the team, and I have strived to do so in the most effective manner.”

Italian reporters were primarily concerned with Donnarumma’s situation rather than the Spurs match, a topic the PSG manager grew weary of.

“No further questions on this matter. This is a decision made by myself and the club, with their full support,” Luis Enrique affirmed.

“Our focus now is to find the optimal solution for all parties involved.”

Donnarumma’s future destination remains undecided, and he hopes for the opportunity to bid farewell to the PSG supporters.

“I hope to have one last opportunity to personally express my gratitude to the fans at the Parc des Princes,” Donnarumma expressed.

“If that is not possible, please know that your support and affection are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.

“It has been a great honor to represent this club and live in this city. Thank you, Paris.”

PSG captain Marquinhos also addressed Donnarumma’s situation during his press conference.

“This is always a challenging situation. Having been here for 12 or 13 years, I have witnessed other players experience similar circumstances,” the Brazilian defender remarked.

“Such is life and football. Eventually, I too will depart, hopefully under favorable circumstances. Players come and go, but the club, the fans, and the history endure.

“We are uncertain whether he will leave or stay. If he remains, we will welcome him back wholeheartedly.

“His contributions last season were exceptional, and our success in reaching the final and winning the trophy is largely due to him. Should he depart, we will express our gratitude.”
