Itauma Set for Whyte Showdown in Saudi Arabia
Moses Itauma is aiming for a convincing victory over Dillian Whyte this Saturday in Saudi Arabia, a win he believes will pave the path for a title opportunity against Oleksandr Usyk, according to international reports on Tuesday.
Itauma has rapidly become a formidable presence in the boxing world, boasting an unblemished record of 12 wins and no losses, with 10 of those wins achieved by knockout. At just 20 years old, he showcases remarkable talent and has drawn comparisons to legendary figures like Mike Tyson since his early years.
During an interview, Itauma expressed respect for Whyte, noting the importance of adhering to a well-defined strategy to ensure a swift victory.
“Dillian is a prominent name and a worthy opponent. My job is to go in there and execute. I need to box according to the game plan. If I do that, it shouldn’t be a prolonged contest,” Itauma stated.
“This marks my first time headlining a show, and it’s in Saudi Arabia against Dillian Whyte, all at the age of 20.”
“There’s inherent pressure with that, but I embrace it. I acknowledge its presence, but I don’t let it overwhelm me, as that would be detrimental. I’m prepared to perform this Saturday night.”
Moses Itauma further mentioned that a successful outcome in the approaching fight would unlock the possibility of a match against Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight champion.
“One day, God willing. I’ve even started learning Arabic since being in Saudi!” he added.
“I believe it will happen. I think Joseph Parker and Agit Kabayel certainly deserve the chance to compete for those titles. However, in today’s world, you don’t always get what you deserve; you get what you negotiate for.”
“If I can defeat Dillian Whyte decisively, and considering my No. 1 ranking with the WBO, I feel I’ll be in a strong position to challenge him.”
Dillian Whyte’s career has seen periods of inactivity in recent years, notably after testing positive for a prohibited substance. This was later attributed to a tainted supplement, which eventually cleared the way for his return to the ring.
Subsequently, Whyte secured a win against Christian Hammer in March 2024 and defeated Ebenezer Tetteh in seven rounds before an injury forced him to withdraw from a scheduled fight against Joe Joyce earlier in 2025.
Whyte’s professional record includes 31 wins out of 34 fights, with bouts against notable opponents such as Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
