Son Heung-min Excited to Share Field with Lionel Messi in MLS

New LAFC acquisition Son Heung-min expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer (MLS). According to international reports on Friday, he considers himself fortunate to have the chance to share the field with Inter Miami’s captain.

Son’s transfer to LAFC from Tottenham Hotspur was an MLS record deal valued at $26 million. This surpasses the previous MLS record of $22 million, which Atlanta United FC spent last winter to acquire Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Upon joining MLS, Son conveyed that it would be an honor to compete on the same pitch as Messi.

He also mentioned that the Argentine superstar was a significant factor in his decision to join the American soccer league.

Son’s Remarks on Messi’s Influence

“It’s a great privilege. We are incredibly fortunate to witness Lionel Messi play in our time. Observing his play, his numerous goals, and his move to MLS will undoubtedly have a big impact on many players, including myself. His contributions to his club and country have influenced me. It altered my perspective,” Son stated.

“I feel extremely lucky to be able to share the field with him.”

Son made 454 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 173 goals. In the 2021-22 season, he also secured the Premier League Golden Boot.

Son Heung-min, who joined Tottenham in August 2015, celebrated his first trophy with Spurs when they defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Son is also the seventh player in Spurs history to reach 450 appearances. Previously, he played for Bundesliga clubs Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen.
