Pakistan Shaheens Depart for Top End T20 Tournament

LAHORE: The Pakistan Shaheens cricket squad embarked on their journey from Lahore to Darwin this Thursday, ready to participate in the Top End T20 Tournament scheduled to take place in Australia from August 14th to 24th.

Under the leadership of Captain Mohammad Irfan Khan, the 15-member team is set to encounter fierce competition in the 11-team tournament. The Shaheens are scheduled to commence their campaign on August 14th against Bangladesh ‘A’.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has implemented a couple of adjustments to the initially announced squad prior to the start of the competition.

Batter Haider Ali has been substituted by Mohammad Faiq due to a temporary suspension related to disciplinary concerns. Additionally, pacer Mohammad Wasim Jnr has been included in the team, replacing left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza.

Salman’s exclusion from the national team also occurred during the recent T20I series against the West Indies, despite his noteworthy debut in the Bangladesh series earlier in the year.

He concluded that series as the highest wicket-taker, securing seven wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of 5.21.

The Shaheens’ roster includes seasoned international players such as Abdul Samad (five T20Is), Faisal Akram (three ODIs), and Mubasir Khan (one T20I), enhancing the team’s overall strength and equilibrium.

Following their initial match, the Shaheens are slated to compete against Scorchers on August 16th and Renegades on August 18th at TIO Stadium.

Subsequently, they will face Kingsmen on August 19th, Strikers on August 21st, and Nepal on August 22nd at DXC Arena. The semi-finals and final are set for August 24th.
