Manchester United Reportedly Agree to Deal for Benjamin Sesko
British media sources indicated Thursday that Manchester United has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko.
The prospective deal is valued at £73.7m (85m euros), comprising a guaranteed payment of £66.3m (76.5m euros) along with potential add-ons.
Reports suggest Sesko is scheduled for a medical examination on Friday, with other procedures to be completed before the transfer to Old Trafford is officially finalized.
Earlier reports mentioned Benjamin Sesko’s preference to continue his football career at Old Trafford in the upcoming season.
The Slovenian international did not participate in Leipzig’s friendly match against Atalanta on Saturday, considering the current situation.
Newcastle United also expressed interest in Sesko, particularly with speculation surrounding Alexander Isak’s future due to Liverpool’s interest.
Newcastle’s initial offer of approximately £65m plus £4.3m in add-ons was turned down by Leipzig over the weekend. However, the Magpies reportedly made a renewed attempt with an improved bid worth at least £70 million on Monday evening.
The 22-year-old Slovenian forward has played in 87 matches for Leipzig, scoring 39 goals.
Sesko is expected to join forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who were acquired by United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, this summer for around £130m combined.
Manchester United is reportedly managing its finances strategically to facilitate these player acquisitions and may generate an additional £50m by finalizing an agreement with Chelsea for Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, who has been informed of his potential departure from Old Trafford this summer.
Forward Rasmus Hojlund has also been listed for sale at £40m after an underwhelming performance over the last two seasons, where he scored only 14 Premier League goals.
