Public Holiday Declared in Sindh for Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Urs

The Sindh government has officially announced August 9 (Saturday) as a public holiday in observance of the Urs of the revered Sufi poet and saint, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

According to an official statement from the Sindh government, all governmental offices, academic institutions, and various autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, alongside local councils under provincial jurisdiction, will be closed on this day. The date corresponds to 14th Safar, 1447 (AH), equivalent to August 9 in the Gregorian calendar.

Essential services, however, will continue to operate without interruption throughout the province, remaining exempt from this holiday notification.

The annual Urs commences on the 14th of Safar, the second month of the Islamic Hijra calendar, and spans three days.

The three-day commemoration will feature poetic symposiums, scholarly conferences, and a range of activities designed to honor and celebrate the literary contributions of the Sufi saint.
