Sinner Highlights Importance of Rest for Peak Performance

Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, stated on Wednesday that he believes taking time off is beneficial for both his physical condition and mental well-being, emphasizing that ‘the body and mind require recovery.’

After a month away from the court, the refreshed Italian athlete is prepared to defend his championship at the Cincinnati Open.

The 23-year-old’s most recent competition was at Wimbledon, where he secured the title before taking a break to prioritize his recuperation.

Earlier in June, Sinner had also advanced to the French Open final but was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner spoke about his choice to take a break, underlining how crucial it is to rest after intense competition:

“The body and mind need time to recover and process everything that has happened,” Sinner commented.

“I am very glad that I took some time off to be with my family, friends, and the people I care about. In the past, I made errors by returning too soon. I have taken that as a learning opportunity.”

He further mentioned that he spoke with his team to make sure the timing of the break was optimal and advantageous in the long term.

“I spoke with my whole team to figure out what would be ideal. Winning major titles is very memorable, but you have to move forward.”

On Wednesday, Sinner was seen practicing with American player Christopher Eubanks. He was seen wearing a protective sleeve on his right elbow, which led to concerns about a potential injury from his Wimbledon campaign. However, the Italian quickly made it clear that it was just a precaution.

“It simply gives me a greater feeling of stability and readiness,” he clarified.

The Cincinnati Open is a crucial preparatory event for the US Open, scheduled from August 23 to September 7.
