Asad Shafiq Appointed Director of Hanif Mohammad High Performance Center
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has designated Asad Shafiq, a former Test player and current member of the national selection committee, as the director of the Hanif Mohammad high performance center located in Karachi. Sources revealed this development on Wednesday.
Shafiq will take on these additional responsibilities while remaining part of the national selection committee, according to reports.
Previously, Shafiq was a member of Pakistan’s selection committee before being appointed to the women’s selection committee.
The women’s selection committee includes former cricketers Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal. They are joined by Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq, who are both members of the men’s national selection committee, along with former international player Batool Fatima.
This committee was established by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on April 25, 2024. Saleem Jaffar previously held the position of chief selector for the women’s team.
Due to the team’s subpar performance, Naqvi, who was unsatisfied with recent results, opted to implement changes in the selection panel.
Reports indicate that former cricketer Azam Khan has been named the head coach of the facility, creating a robust management team dedicated to player development.
The PCB has not yet made an official announcement regarding these appointments.
Shafiq has represented Pakistan in 77 Test matches, amassing 4,660 runs at an average of 38.19. This includes 12 centuries and 27 half-centuries.
Additionally, he participated in 60 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 10 T20 Internationals for the national team.
The Karachi-born right-handed batter announced his retirement from professional cricket in December 2023, after leading Karachi Whites to the National T20 title.
Throughout his career, Shafiq was a key figure in Pakistan’s Test batting lineup from 2010 to 2020. He also had a successful domestic career, accumulating over 12,000 runs in 191 first-class matches and 5,784 runs in 162 List A matches.
