Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the Second Steering Committee Meeting for the Pakistan International Maritime Expo & Conference (PIMEC 2025) at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi. The session brought together senior-level representatives from provincial authorities, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Pakistan Navy, law enforcement agencies, trade development bodies, and industry stakeholders.
The meeting focused on finalizing the roadmap and coordination for PIMEC 2025, scheduled to take place from November 3 to 6, 2025, at the Karachi Expo Centre. Serving as Pakistan’s flagship maritime event, PIMEC aims to highlight innovations in maritime technology, promote public-private partnerships, and showcase opportunities within the blue economy such as offshore energy, fisheries, shipbuilding, ports enhancement, and coastal tourism.
Chief Minister Shah emphasized that PIMEC is intended to do more than exhibit industry capabilities it is a strategic platform to drive investments, policy dialogue, and sustainable coastal development. He underscored the need for seamless collaboration between government bodies, Pakistan Navy, international organizations, and private sector players to ensure the event yields tangible economic impact.
Key focus areas discussed during the steering session included:
- Logistical coordination and event timeline to ensure smooth operations across all four days
- Investor engagement strategies, including B2B matchmaking and focused investor forums
- Maritime innovation and skill development, highlighting the need to build technical expertise and trained manpower
- Promotion of Pakistan’s coastal potential, such as leveraging Gwadar, Karachi Port Trust, and Gadani shipbreaking facilities
- Ensuring comprehensive media coverage and international participation from trade delegations, research institutions, and foreign maritime organizations
The Chief Minister reiterated his administration’s vision for “Sea the Future” a motto aimed at overcoming “sea blindness” and harnessing Pakistan’s strategic maritime location for economic growth. He called on stakeholders to align operational planning with long-term goals for the maritime sector and ensure that initiatives launched at PIMEC translate into actionable business opportunities and policy reforms.
This second steering committee meeting sets a firm foundation for the successful hosting of PIMEC 2025. Officials anticipate robust participation from domestic and international maritime firms, government agencies, and academic institutions. With Karachi positioned as the epicenter of Pakistan’s maritime industry, the event is poised to attract significant foreign and local investment, while reinforcing Pakistan’s regional and global maritime aspirations.
