Fakhar Zaman’s Hamstring Injury Casts Doubt on Tri-Series and Asia Cup Participation
The availability of Fakhar Zaman for the upcoming tri-series and Asia Cup is now uncertain. This follows a hamstring injury, creating speculation about potential changes to Pakistan’s T20I squad.
Speculation arose on social media after Fakhar Zaman sustained a hamstring injury during the T20I series against the West Indies. As a result, the left-handed batter will miss both the T20I and ODI sections of the West Indies tour.
With the tri-nation series drawing near, questions have arisen regarding Pakistan’s top-order options. This is due to an unclear timeline for Fakhar’s recovery, leading to uncertainty before the Asia Cup.
Following the injury, the PCB instructed Fakhar to proceed to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. He is set to begin rehabilitation under the supervision of the board’s medical staff.
Sources suggest that the PCB is closely monitoring Fakhar’s recovery, and contingency plans are being considered should he not recover in time for the Asia Cup.
Social media reports indicate that Babar Azam could be recalled to the T20I team if Fakhar is unable to regain complete fitness in time.
However, it is believed that any potential return for Babar depends on his performance in the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies.
Impressing the selectors with strong performances could pave the way for his comeback to the national side before the Asia Cup.
Babar recently joined PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Naseem Shah on the sidelines of the second T20I against the West Indies.
The final squad selection for the Asia Cup is anticipated in the second week of August.
The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to commence on September 9, featuring a Group B match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
