Fakhar Zaman’s Tri-Series Participation in Doubt Due to Hamstring Injury
Sources indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to reveal the national squad for both the forthcoming Asia Cup and the tri-series during the second week of August.
Insiders suggest that the team composition is likely to remain largely unchanged. The management is expected to keep the core set of players who participated in matches against Bangladesh and the West Indies.
However, Fakhar Zaman’s involvement in the tri-series remains uncertain. The left-handed batsman suffered a hamstring injury during the T20I series against the West Indies, which sidelined him for both the T20I and ODI games.
Following his injury, the PCB instructed Fakhar to return from Florida. He was asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore promptly, where he is now undergoing a rehabilitation program. His presence in the upcoming tournaments will hinge on his rehabilitation progress.
Earlier in the week, the PCB released the schedule for the upcoming T20I tri-nation series featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The tri-series is scheduled from August 29 to September 7 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.
This event is a vital preparatory stage for the three teams as they get ready for the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup, also in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
The tri-series will commence on August 29, with Pakistan facing Afghanistan. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM local time.
Each team will play the other twice, ensuring a minimum of four matches for each side. The top two teams will then proceed to the final on September 7.
The Asia Cup 2025 will begin with a Group B match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong on September 9.
Eight teams, divided into two groups, will compete for the title. Pakistan and India are in Group A, along with UAE and Oman. Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.
Pakistan will begin their campaign against Oman on September 12, followed by a significant match against India on September 14. Their final group-stage game is on September 17 against the UAE.
