Afghanistan Announces Preliminary Squad for T20I Tri-Series and Asia Cup 2025
KABUL: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has revealed a 22-member preliminary squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), along with the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025.
According to details released by the cricket board, the provisional team, captained by prominent spinner Rashid Khan, will participate in a two-week training camp to prepare for the T20I matches.
Following the training period, the squad will be reduced to a final selection of 15 players.
The T20I tri-series is scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 7 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.
Afghanistan will commence their tri-series journey with a match against Pakistan on August 29.
This series is an important preparation opportunity for all three participating teams prior to the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup, which will also take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
The tournament offers players an invaluable chance to acclimatize to the conditions before the continental competition.
Originally, Pakistan was expected to host Afghanistan for a bilateral T20I series in August.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed transforming the event into a tri-nation series and relocating it to the UAE, to improve readiness for the Asia Cup.
Each team will compete against the others twice, ensuring that all teams participate in at least four matches before the top two teams proceed to the final, scheduled for September 7.
