United and Everton Draw After Heaven’s Own Goal
Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, voiced his disapproval of his team’s performance, labeling them as ‘lazy’ after their 2-2 stalemate against Everton in a pre-season friendly.
Fernandes opened the scoring with a penalty in the 19th minute, giving United an early advantage. However, Iliman Ndiaye equalized for Everton just five minutes before the halftime break.
Mason Mount then scored in the 69th minute, seemingly putting Manchester United on track for a win. Nevertheless, an unfortunate own goal by Everton’s Ayden Heaven in the 75th minute resulted in the draw on Sunday.
Fernandes conveyed his dissatisfaction with the team’s effort, stating, ‘we lacked intensity’.
“It’s been vital for improving our tactical approach and integrating the new players,” Fernandes commented.
“This wasn’t the outcome we desired. Our level of play wasn’t up to par, and we were somewhat lethargic. We must avoid this, as complacency can be costly.”
Manchester United is currently facing challenges, evidenced by their previous Premier League season, where they finished in 15th place. The Red Devils are aiming to bolster their attacking options, targeting players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Addressing the team’s composition and recent additions, Fernandes expressed optimism that the club is making progress and might secure one or two more signings.
“We’re getting better, but we’re not where we need to be. I don’t want to criticize anyone, but the club is maximizing its resources given the financial constraints,” Fernandes mentioned.
“It was evident that we required increased competition among the existing players and more talent to motivate everyone to elevate their game, which I believe the club is trying to achieve.”
“Hopefully, we can add one or two more players to aid in this endeavor.”
