Nawaz: Pakistan’s Score Fell Short of the Mark

LAUDERHILL: Following Pakistan’s defeat in the second T20I against the West Indies, all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz pointed to an insufficient run total as the primary cause. He emphasized that a target of at least 150-160 runs was essential for securing victory on this particular pitch.

In his post-match comments, Nawaz commended the partnership formed by Hasan Nawaz and Salman Ali Agha during a critical phase of the game, acknowledging their resilience in challenging circumstances.

“Credit goes to Hasan Nawaz and Salman Agha for their batting performance under pressure. Our teamwork against the spinners was effective, but our finish lacked strength,” he remarked.

Nawaz reiterated that the inadequate target was the key reason for the loss, asserting that winning was unattainable with such a modest total. However, he lauded the team’s fighting spirit despite the low score.

“The score we posted was below the required standard; we needed to reach 150 or 160. Nevertheless, our bowling and fielding units displayed commendable effort. The bowlers kept us competitive, which was commendable,” he added.

Regarding his own contribution, Nawaz stated his commitment to fulfilling the team’s needs and expressed his desire to maintain consistent performances in future matches.

“My objective is to make a significant impact with both my batting and bowling skills. In these conditions, I adapt my game to suit the team’s strategy. My bowling has been effective in both matches, but I aim to improve my batting. I consistently strive to contribute meaningfully,” he explained.

“I tailor my practice and training to align with my designated role and the team’s requirements,” he further added.

Defending Hasan Ali, Nawaz mentioned that it was simply an unproductive day for the fast bowler, asserting that fast bowlers would be instrumental in the forthcoming matches.

“In T20 cricket, experiencing an off day is not unusual. Today, Hasan Ali faced some difficulties. We anticipate that our fast bowlers will perform well in the subsequent matches, as they are crucial for securing wins.

“Wickets aren’t exclusively taken by fast bowlers; given the pitch’s slower pace, spinners tend to find more assistance here,” Nawaz concluded.
