Romania Offers Pakistan Trade Access via Constanța Port

Romania has proposed utilizing its Port of Constanța to grant Pakistan direct access to European markets via routes through the Black Sea and the Danube River. Islamabad has embraced this initiative, viewing it as a practical step toward the diversification of Pakistan’s export channels.

This development arose during a meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and the Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu. Their discussions centered on strengthening collaboration across sectors including trade, logistics, defense, energy, and culture, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce.

Both parties explored ways to enhance agricultural commerce, meat exports, and potential collaboration in pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, fan manufacturing, and eco-friendly energy solutions.

The statement noted, “Regarding energy, Romania conveyed its willingness to assist Pakistan’s transition to sustainable energy sources, offering technological support in both solar and wind power generation.”

Further Collaboration Opportunities

Acknowledging Pakistan’s strengths in several industries, Romania voiced its interest in expanding industrial collaboration.

Jam Kamal informed the Romanian envoy about the government’s ongoing efforts to lower tariff and non-tariff barriers.

He stated, “This provides attractive incentives for Romanian firms to invest in Pakistan through joint ventures.”

Ambassador Stoenescu recognized the considerable expansion of Pakistan’s IT sector, applauding the expertise of Pakistani professionals in the field.

He mentioned that Romania offers substantial prospects for Pakistani technology experts and expressed readiness to facilitate relevant exchanges.

Additionally, the commerce minister emphasized the government’s policy initiatives aimed at boosting the IT sector. Both sides concurred on the importance of strengthening cooperation in the technology arena.

The meeting also touched upon cultural diplomacy and community integration, with calls for enhanced connectivity and simplified visa processes.
