Liverpool’s Pursuit of Isak Thwarted by Newcastle
Reports from British media on Friday indicate that Newcastle United has turned down a formal offer from Liverpool for their striker, Alexander Isak.
It is understood that The Magpies value Isak at approximately £150m. The Reds’ proposal was reportedly £110m along with additional incentives.
The Swedish international is reportedly contemplating a departure from Newcastle this summer. He has been training with his former club, Real Sociedad, after being omitted from Eddie Howe’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.
Isak, who transferred from Real Sociedad to Newcastle in 2022 for £60m, showcased his talent by scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season.
Earlier reports in July suggested Liverpool’s interest in Isak, with a potential offer reaching up to £130m.
Newcastle has consistently demonstrated their reluctance to let go of the player this summer. However, Liverpool continues to pursue Isak.
Having made an initial informal inquiry to Newcastle last month, the Premier League side has now submitted an official offer.
Liverpool is anticipated to improve their offer for Isak, as manager Arne Slot is reportedly eager to secure the striker before the commencement of the new season.
Liverpool have reportedly already invested £265m, excluding add-ons, in acquiring Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Hugo Ekitike.
In parallel, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, and Caoimhin Kelleher have reportedly departed for an initial £115m.
Isak has three years remaining on his contract with Newcastle. Despite the club’s firm stance that he is not for sale, the Magpies have initiated a search for potential replacements should he leave.
