Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued firm directives to take immediate action against those involved in artificially inflating sugar prices across the country.

In a high-level meeting held in Islamabad, the premier expressed strong concern over the unjustified hike in sugar prices, calling it an exploitation of the public by profiteers and hoarders. He directed relevant federal and provincial departments to initiate targeted operations against hoarders, price manipulators, and black market networks.

The Prime Minister instructed:

  • Daily price monitoring of sugar at wholesale and retail levels
  • Deployment of price control magistrates in key markets
  • Raids on warehouses involved in hoarding
  • Immediate reporting of sugar mill stockpiles

He also called for coordination between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Competition Commission, and provincial food departments to ensure price transparency and fair market practices.

“No one will be allowed to exploit the common citizen,” said PM Shehbaz Sharif. “Those creating artificial shortages for profit will face strict legal consequences.”

The PM also urged the Ministry of National Food Security to publish weekly sugar production and availability reports to avoid market manipulation.
