As Ramadan approaches, the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take decisive action against the hoarding of essential commodities. In an official letter, the forum highlighted that sugar stockpiling has already begun, creating concerns over potential price hikes.
Call for Strict Price Regulation Instead of Subsidies
PBF President Khawaja Mehboob-ur-Rehman emphasized that instead of subsidies, the government should enforce official price rates to prevent artificial inflation. He warned that hoarders are manipulating market conditions, with advance deals for March already taking place.
Urgent Action Required
The forum has urged authorities to direct chief secretaries to establish a strict monitoring mechanism to control the supply chain and prevent unjustified price increases. Experts suggest that without immediate intervention, consumers may face significant price surges during Ramadan, affecting millions across the country.
