PDMA Warns of Further Rainfall Across Punjab
Amid the ongoing monsoon season throughout the nation, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning for additional rainfall in the province.
The PDMA Director General has cautioned about potential urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala. Significant rainfall is anticipated in various cities, including Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Sialkot, within the upcoming 24 hours.
The official stated that flooding is anticipated in the Chenab and Jhelum rivers and adjacent areas, as well as the Ravi River. Monsoon rains are expected to persist until July 31.
The PDMA DG’s announcement coincides with the implementation of a rain emergency in Rawalpindi, according to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) managing director, following substantial rainfall.
Providing rainfall statistics, he noted that Rawalpindi recorded over 80 millimetres of rain overall, while Golra and Bokra recorded 30 and 32mm, respectively.
Meanwhile, Saidpur in Islamabad has recorded 90mm of rainfall.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rainfall to continue until July 31. Numerous regions of the country have experienced intense rainfall, resulting in flash floods and landslides, with the death toll currently standing at 279.
Punjab has been the most severely impacted province, reporting over 150 confirmed deaths and more than 530 injuries. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has documented at least 64 fatalities and 80 injuries.
In Sindh, there have been at least 25 deaths and 40 injuries. Balochistan has also reported 20 fatalities and four injuries.
