India and Pakistan to Clash in UAE on September 14
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly voiced his support Sunday for the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, asserting that sporting events should proceed despite geopolitical or security challenges.
In discussions with the Indian media, Ganguly stated clearly that he sees no problem with the two teams competing.
“I have absolutely no issues with it. Sports should continue. Tragic events like terrorism should never occur, but that shouldn’t stop cricket,” Ganguly commented.
The former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) highlighted the need to move forward and maintain sporting connections, irrespective of prior events.
“The past is behind us; it’s essential to progress. Sports shouldn’t be disrupted under any circumstances. Even though India has adopted a firm stance against terrorism, cricket activities should proceed,” he added.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) recently revealed the schedule for the Men’s Asia Cup 2025, confirming the match between India and Pakistan on September 14 in the UAE.
This year’s continental tournament will utilize the T20 format, serving as important preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which India and Sri Lanka will jointly host.
The tournament will feature eight teams, divided into two groups. Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.
The event commences on September 9 with a match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
Pakistan is set to begin their campaign against Oman on September 12, followed by the significant match against India two days later.
Should both teams secure top-two positions in their respective groups, they will likely meet again during the Super Four stage on September 21, with the final match scheduled for September 28.
